Will this make me trip?

No. Lion's mane and chaga are culinary and functional mushrooms with no psychoactive compounds. They are not psilocybin mushrooms, they are not related to them, and nothing in this bag is intoxicating.

Does it taste like mushrooms?

No. The mushrooms are extracts rather than ground caps, so the cup tastes like a smooth medium roast. If you have tried a mushroom coffee before and disliked the earthiness, that is usually a powder versus extract difference.

How much caffeine is in it?

About half a standard cup of drip coffee. Mayo Clinic puts an 8 oz brewed coffee at roughly 96 mg, so ours lands near half of that. That figure is arithmetic off the Mayo Clinic number, not a lab result.

The measured figure per serving goes on the bag and into the lot certificate rather than being estimated here. For scale: the FDA describes 400 mg a day as an amount not generally associated with negative effects in healthy adults, and a 12 oz can of Celsius or Alani Nu carries 200 mg, half a day's allowance in one can.

Why is chaga in the bag?

Flavour and tradition, and we say so rather than implying more. Chaga is the one with the story. It does not even look like a mushroom, more like a burnt scab on the side of a living birch, black outside and rust orange all the way in. It takes years, there is no farm for it, and it is still wild harvested by the lot.

That last part is also why a drop is 500 bags and not 30,000. Every lot tastes a little different.

What does "fruiting body" actually mean?

It means the mushroom itself, rather than the root-like mycelium grown on a bed of grain. Most inexpensive mushroom supplements are mycelium grown on rice or oats and dried with the grain included. In 2025 tests, grain products sold as mushroom measured 1.0 to 6.9% beta-glucan against 33.1 to 68.4% starch. Authentic material came in at 5.7 to 11.9% beta-glucan.

Watch for the phrase "total polysaccharides". It is one number made of two, and it adds the mushroom and the grain together. Ask any brand for them separately.

Is this better than an energy drink?

It is a different trade, and the honest version is that it depends what you want. An energy drink gives you more caffeine faster. That is genuinely useful sometimes. What it also gives you is a bigger dose to come down from, and in several cases a lot of sugar. Consumer Reports found energy drinks carrying around 39 g of added sugar, which is more than the American Heart Association's entire suggested daily limit for women.

If you want the strongest possible hit, buy the energy drink. If you want something you can drink every morning for a year, that is what this is for.

Is there a subscription?

No. One bag is $34 as a one time purchase. Each formulation is 500 bags and a unique blend every drop, so there is nothing to auto ship.

What if I do not like it?

Unopened bags can be returned within 14 days of delivery, less a $5.99 flat-rate return shipping fee. Email hello@fruitingbody.io for a return authorisation before shipping anything back.

If it arrives damaged, defective or wrong, email a photo within 14 days and we replace it at no charge. This is a food product, so opened bags cannot come back and we cannot refund for taste or preference. The full terms are on our refund policy.

When does it ship?

Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days. Standard delivery then takes 5 to 10 business days, and you get a tracking link by email as soon as the parcel is scanned. We ship within the United States only. Full details are on our shipping policy.

Who should not drink this?

Anyone pregnant or nursing. Anyone on blood thinners or antiplatelet medication. Anyone with a history of kidney stones, because chaga is high in oxalate and there are published case reports of kidney injury with heavy chronic use. Anyone avoiding caffeine, because this contains it. Talk to your doctor before starting any supplement alongside medication. The longer version is here.
